From its obscure humble beginnings, postporn has explored the terrain of BDSM cultural practices with a keen interest for their visibility and fair representation, whipped patriarchy and expanded its fields of meaning. Thanks to the artists – both individuals and collectives – active in the independent BDSM scene, these practices have resisted being tamed and appropriated by mainstream culture. The popularity of visual strategies employed by underground and non-mainstream BDSM is the driving force behind postporn rebellions. This popularity is best evidenced by the fact that during the festival we are presenting not one, but two separate, yet complementary, sets of films exploring BDSM practices as still evolving and resonating with the contemporary world. Each section comprises a selection of unique films: from an exploration of a PhD thesis focused on the medicalization of BDSM practices (“PT#1398”), through the radically ecosexual (“Phytophilia”), to references to cinema classics (“Decadance”) and, in an unexpectedly poetic way, a film presenting the dynamics of power play (“Merci Madam Manon”).
